‘African Violet’ hailed in France

Mona Zandi Haghighi’s latest drama ‘African Violet’ has bagged two awards from the 25th Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France.  

The film won the High School Award presented by a jury grid who are selected by Vesoul’s Belin High School.

‘African Violet’ also shared the audience award for a fiction film with ‘Waiting for Sunset’ by Carlo Enciso Catu from the Philippines.

The plotline is brought as, “Middle-aged Shokou finds out that ex-husband, Fereydoun, has been placed in a nursing home by their children. She, and second husband Reza, decide to take care of Fereydoun themselves, but in their own home. In doing so, the relationship between Shokou and Fereydoun is significantly transformed. This new situation affects Reza and Shokou’s daily life and unexpected changes take place in the lives of all three characters.”

Fatemeh Motamed-Arya, Reza Babak and Saeed Aqakhani are among the leading characters of the movie.

The flick attended the 37th Fajr Film Festival held in Iran winning two nominations for Best Film Score (Peyman Yazdanian) and  Best Actress in a Leading Role (Fatemeh Motamed-Arya). 

The Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinemas was held on February 5-12, 2019 in Vesoul in eastern France with the aim to present and promote the cinema of Asian territories, enhance intracultural dialog and encourage the discovery of other cultures through cinema.
